The South Korean tech giant released the Gear Sport wearable almost four years ago, with the Gear S3 even older – coming out five years. Since then Samsung has moved on, with the Galaxy Watch 3 the latest wearable from the S21 makers, and a Galaxy Watch 4 is tipped to release this year. But that doesn’t mean Samsung has forgotten about its older smartwatches, with the latest firmware updates for the ageing Gear S3 and Gear Sport clear proof of that.
As reported by Tizen Help, the Gear S3 received firmware update R760XXU2FUD1 while the Gear Sport got R600XXU2FUD1 patch.
Unfortunately the changelog doesn’t reveal too much, simply saying the updates bring Wi-Fi stability improvements to the older Samsung wearables.
But that’s a welcome change given how much non-LTE smartwatches rely on a Wi-Fi connection.

According to reports, the new Gear S3 and Gear Sport update is already out in China and South Korea.
You can check for new firmware updates by heading to the Galaxy Wearable app on a smartwatch’s connected phone.
This isn’t the first time that Samsung has pushed out an update for an ageing smartwatch.
Last year Samsung also released an update for the Gear S2 which improved its battery life and changed the interface.
The Gear S2’s UI was brought inline with the Galaxy Watch Active 2, so the ageing smartwatch had all the same widgets and icons as the most recent Galaxy watches.
The new Gear Sport and Gear S3 update comes as Samsung fans wait to find out about the Galaxy Watch 4.
The Galaxy Watch 3 launched last August, however the Galaxy Watch 4 could be revealed earlier this year.
According to leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy Watch 4 will be revealed before the end of the second quarter of this year.
So before June is over we should get a glimpse of the Galaxy Watch 4.
And that’s not all, with Samsung also rumoured to be working on a Galaxy Watch Active 4 which will debut at the same time.
