TikTok star Leah Smith dead at 22 after battle with bone cancer

TikTok star Leah Smith, who documented her four-year battle with bone cancer, died Monday at the age of 22.

Smith’s boyfriend, Andrew Moore, shared the sad news on the social media platform.

“I’m sad to say that she passed away today around half-eleven this morning,” he said Monday in a video clip on her official page. “I just want to say thank you to everyone. All your comments did help, like, she did actually read all of them. Anyone who said anything nice ever, it means more than you realize.”

“I want to see everyone speaking about Leah and how amazing she is and how much she helped everyone,” Moore added. “We’ll never let Leah be forgotten.”

Smith, who hailed from Liverpool, England, grew her TikTok popularity by publicly chronicling her battle against Ewing sarcoma, a rare type of tumor that primarily forms in the bone and soft tissue. According to the National Cancer Institute, it typically affects teens and young adults through their mid-20s.

In 2020, Smith said she experienced a back ache 10 months before her diagnosis but really knew something was wrong when she lost all the feeling in her left leg.

She went on to share details on the “ups and downs” of the disease, which reached stage 4 before her death.

In a Feb. 3 post, she told her 530,000-plus followers she had been hospitalized and was bedridden.

“I can’t even move to go to the toilet or anything because I’m in that much pain,” Smith said at the time. “I’m just stuck sitting like this.”

In a Feb. 18 clip, she revealed her cancer had spread and new tumors had grown, noting that she may be at the “end [of] the journey.”

“All the pain meds aren’t working so they really just want to get me to a comfortable state as much as possible,” she shared.
