Thousands watch footage as bullies batter young girl and 'rip her hair out'

Olivia McKenna, 13, was set upon by the group of youths as she walked home from school on Monday. The brutal assault, which was recorded, was shared on social media and has been viewed thousands of times.

Up to three teens are seen punching and kicking Olivia, and later pull her hair. Other bullies egg their pals on in the distressing scenes, Liverpool Echo reports.

As the violence finally stops, the ringleader is heard to say: “I’ll f****** rag you, you f****** little s***.”

Victoria Brown, Olivia’s mum, said her daughter loosely knew some of the girls from social media, but added she had been attacked for what she said was no reason.

The beating has left Olivia missing hair near her forehead, where it was ripped out, bruises on her back where she was kicked, and a footprint on her head.

Police were called to the scene near Mossley Hill, Liverpool, and Victoria intends to press charges.

“Olivia had got off the bus and was walking home with two friends when they attacked her in a gang. She tried her best to fight back, but someone else was always jumping in,” the 38-year-old mum said.

“This sort of thing can’t go on, it could have been a lot worse, awareness needs raising to stop this from happening.

“It’s just really scary, too, that social media can be used to plan fights like this.

“It was an ambush, they were waiting for her.”

Merseyside Police are investigating the thuggery, which they’ve branded as “shocking”.

But Victoria remains angry and fearful.

She added: “As her mum, I feel physically sick with what could have happened.

“I’d like police to press charges to ensure my child and other children’s safety,

“When I saw the footage, I can’t even describe my feelings, to see your own daughter put through something like this.

“I don’t know if it’s because of lockdown, and children have all this pent up anger now.”

A spokeswoman for the police force said: “On Monday April 19, we received a report of an altercation between a group of youths in South Liverpool.

“At around 4.10pm it was reported that a fight took place between a group of around 20 male and female youths on Allerton Road. It is understood a further altercation then took place in Calderstones Park.

“A 13-year-old girl was reported to have been assaulted and the matter is now under investigation.

“Officers attended the scene and spoke with the victim who suffered minor injuries and was left extremely shaken by the incident.

“High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area around Calderstones Park.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and Merseyside Police Safer Schools Officers are liaising with the schools of those believed to be involved.”

Community Policing Inspector Neil Birkett said: “We at Merseyside Police will not tolerate anti-social behaviour of this nature. The incident yesterday was shocking and has left a girl injured. I hope that all those involved will think very carefully about their actions.

“If anyone was in the Allerton Road and Calderstones Park areas yesterday afternoon and has any further information then I’d urge you to come forward, either directly or through Crimestoppers to help us with our enquiries.”
