Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he could make a ‘crazy decision’ by throwing Reece James straight into the mix against Liverpool in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
James has been sidelined since Chelsea’s home clash against Brighton back in December. The full-back only just recently returned to training on Thursday following a long-term hamstring injury.
The German boss welcomed the England international back into the fold at the Blues’ Cobham training ground and has now surprised many, suggesting the 22-year-old could start.

James, 22, has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury in the match against Brighton
‘Reece James, even if I wanted to answer I’m not sure if I could answer, he looked brilliant in the last two sessions, let’s see if the crazy side of me wins and I put him on the pitch. He looked so strong and confident that it is tempting. Still two days to go and we will take the decision’, Tuchel said.
‘We had training with everybody on the pitch except Ben Chilwell, which is brilliant news. Everyone joined team training from the first to the last minute.’
Tuchel has also hinted Romelu Lukaku could start the clash against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday.
Striker Romelu Lukaku, 28, is expected to start in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool
‘Romelu [Lukaku] has been good like everyone else, we know he is an important player, if you pay a lot of money there is always focus on the player.
‘He played a lot of consecutive matches, and is in a similar situation with Jorginho. The focus is on Romelu and I understand why.
‘Inside it is very clear, the players accept it. There are hard feelings from Romelu, me or anyone else. Only 11 players can start and that will never change.’
Tuchel will take on Klopp when both battle it out on the Wembley turn this weekend, and he is relishing the opportunity to go head-to-head with his fellow countryman on Sunday afternoon.
The 48-year-old heaped praise on Liverpool insisting his side must be at their best if they are to beat the Reds.

‘Playing Jurgen’s teams is not just pure pleasure because they give you a hard time, we’re facing him with a very strong Liverpool team. Brilliant form, strong run of games.
‘We feel absolutely competitive regarding our last matches to Liverpool. It is a pleasure to be in a final at Wembley.
‘You do not take care of the final the day of the final or day before, you do it in the lead up, and the closer you get the more behaviours and principles must be installed to trust yourself and be free.
‘We try to give less information and trust in our skills, it is not the moment for crazy things, crazy talks. Even that changes all the time.’

Tuchel is relishing the opportunity and claims his side are the underdogs going into the clash given Liverpool’s recent form.
‘I think to a 51 or 55 per cent they are the favourites because of recent form but we all know like when we were favourites against Lille, we know the opposition play to the full level.
‘We have things to trust on, experienced tight matches against Liverpool, there will be a winner somehow and we know what it takes to have a tough match against them. Now we need to show it, it is the same for them and nice to have a match like this in the final.’
