‘They’re not very good!’: Gary Neville is left unimpressed by Manchester United despite their win over Spurs and insists Ralf Rangnick’s men were saved by ‘big moments from a big player’ following Ronaldo’s hat-trick

  • Gary Neville was unimpressed with Man United despite beating Spurs 3-2
  • Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Red Devils cruised to win at Old Trafford
  • Neville says that United were ‘not very good’ throughout the match on Saturday

Gary Neville was left unimpressed with Manchester United despite beating Tottenham 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, insisting ‘they’re not very good’.

Cristiano Ronaldo rolled back the years as he scored all three of United’s goals in the Premier League clash, including a sensational long-range strike and a thumping header to win the game after Spurs had equalised twice.

However, Neville was left unconvinced by United’s overall performance and said the club’s fans will be questioning their display despite Ronaldo’s brilliance, which saw them reclaim their spot in the Premier League top four.

Speaking after the game, Neville told Sky Sports:  ‘It was a strange game at times in the second half. But obviously, Cristiano Ronaldo was absolutely sensational.

‘What a response from last weekend’s poor display but also the situation with him where it looked like he was left out injured.

‘They were not very good, I have to say that. The moments in the game were magical and the fans are absolutely buzzing because they have seen Cristiano Ronaldo and they feel like they’ve seen something special.

‘But in terms of performance, if it is Spurs scoring that late goal, United fans will be going home saying: ‘How bad were we today?’

‘But big moments happen and the big player turned up and ultimately that is send them home happy, but it wasn’t a great performance.’

The win moved Ralf Rangnick’s into fourth but they have played four more games than Arsenal who are just below the Red Devils.

Ronaldo’s hat-trick meant that the Portuguese forward became the leading goalscorer of all time, surpassing Josef Bican’s record.

The legendary attacker now stands alone, above the likes of Pele, Romario and Lionel Messi, on 807 goals, according to FIFA records, with his accumulation of goals coming from his time at Sporting Lisbon, United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Portugal.

He now has 136 goals and counting for United, adding to his 115 for Portugal, five for Sporting, 101 for Juventus and 450 for Madrid.
