The Repair Shop’s Suzie Fletcher breaks down as restoration reminds her of husband’s death

0

The hit BBC programme The Repair Shop is known for bringing a tear to viewers’ eyes, but whilst working on an old rocking horse, Suzie unearthed a long-hidden element of the item, which was brought in by guest Julie Yates. Julie had informed her that she believed her late husband Paul had signed the horse after fixing it up decades before, and was hoping to see his name.

As she restored the wooden horse, Suzie took a breath as she prepared to remove the saddle.

She said: “Julie is fairly confident that Paul did sign under the saddle when they renovated back in the 80s.

“I really, really hope it’s here.”

Sure enough, when Julie removed the material, a clear signature was visible.

It read: ‘Paul Yates, 6/12/87’. Upon seeing this, Julie immediately broke down in tears.

She explained: “I too, lost my husband to cancer. It seems so insignificant, someone’s name that they wrote

“It’s so personal. I’m really pleased for Julie that it’s here – and really pleased for the children.”

Julie was unable to talk later as she was overcome with emotion.

Her brother Steven, who also works as a restorer on the show, came over to comfort his sister.

One person recently tweeted: “Watching an old episode of The Repair Shop in floods of tears with the lovely lady and her rocking horse.

“Her face when she saw her late husbands name was so full of emotion and to hear that Suzy the leather expert also lost her husband to cancer just finished me off.”(sic)

Another wrote, alongside crying emojis: “Oh dear….. it’s the ‘rocking horse’ #RepairShop…..!!!!!”

“Just watched. Not a dry eye in our house. Another amazing episode. So many beautiful memories restored. The rocking horse was my favourite. Just stunning. Well done once again repair shop team,” one person added.

A fourth penned: “#repairshop In absolute bits! That record player, the rocking horse… Got the carousel to come…”

“I’m not crying, I must have something in my eye as she found the signature on the rocking horse. #repairshop #therepairshop,” another joked.

One said: “The Repair Shop The signature on the rocking horse… is anyone else crying… how delightful is this show.”

The Repair Shop airs daily at 4.30pm on BBC One.
