The incredible £454m plan to transform huge European city with brand new bridge

A new plan worth £454 million is underway to improve transportation efficiency and safety in one of the popular European cities. The A45 motorway, also known as the Sauerlandlinie, is a major highway in Germany that runs through the states of Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Rahmede Viaduct is located along this motorway near the town of Menden, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Rahmede Viaduct redevelopment project aims to address structural deficiencies and accommodate increasing traffic demands in Germany.

The viaduct, originally constructed in the 1960s, had begun to show signs of ageing and required significant maintenance and upgrades to ensure its continued safe operation.

The redevelopment project involves extensive renovation and modernisation of the Rahmede Viaduct.

This includes repairs to the viaduct’s structure, such as strengthening of the bridge deck and supports, as well as improvements to its drainage and lighting systems.

Additionally, measures are taken to enhance the viaduct’s seismic resistance and resilience to adverse weather conditions.

The redevelopment of the bridge is part of a larger infrastructure investment program aimed at upgrading Germany’s transportation networks.

The project is funded by federal and state governments, as well as contributions from regional authorities and European Union grants.

Construction work commenced in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026, according to the reports.

Upon completion, the redeveloped Rahmede Viaduct will provide smoother and safer travel for motorists along the A45 motorway.

It will also contribute to reducing congestion and improving connectivity between major cities and regions served by the motorway network.
