The incredible 450-mile train line where you get to see jungles and beaches

An incredible 450-mile train line allows passengers to somehow see both jungles and beaches.

The Eastern & Oriental Express, a Belmond train, travels around Malaysia and has been named one of the best train journeys in the world.

The journey was chosen for one of the world’s best train trips in Conde Nast Traveller’s 2023 Reader’s Choice Award, where it was called “the stuff of train enthusiasts’ legends”.

The luxury train is made up of 31 rail carriages including sleeping cars, two dining cars, a bar car and an observation car. It is fully air-conditioned and each cabin has a bathroom.

There are just four experiences available, all of which are four days and three nights. They are made up of one route, travelling from Singapore to Ipoh, Gemas and more.

Passengers can create “everlasting memories” aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express, including visiting a wild tiger conservation area, attending a Peranakan cooking class, exploring Georgetown’s beautiful Old Quarter and snorkelling in Langkawi.

Journeys all give passengers the opportunity to see sites such as stunning coastline, vibrant jungle, bustling metropolis and more.

Those who have travelled on the train said it was “beautiful and exceeded every expectation”. Others said it was an “unforgettable experience” with “incredible service”.

Belmond describes the train as “a travelling memoir of a beguiling age” with the signature cream and green exterior giving way to polished wood-panelled corridors and silken furnishings with Asian designs.

The bar car has a “jazz-club ambience” with music lingering in the air and stewards serving champagne and signature cocktails.

Accommodation available on board the train includes the Presidential Suite with caviar on arrival and free-flowing Champagne, the State Cabin and the standard Pullman Cabin.

Tickets for journeys on the Eastern & Oriental Express start at £2,695 per person for a two-person cabin and range up to £7,352 per person for a one-person cabin.
