A brand new Super Mario Bros game has just been released, although it’s not available for Nintendo Switch, iOS or Android. Super Mario Dobble is the latest version of the popular card game from Asmodee. If you’re not familiar with Dobble, it’s a popular card game that supports upwards of eight players. The aim of the game is to spot the common symbol between two cards and name it before your opponents. It’s simple enough for anybody to pick up and play, even if you don’t like video games. It’s a little bit like Snap, although the difference is that each card has multiple symbols, so you need to quickly identify which one matches your card.
It’s also relatively inexpensive, costing just £16.99 from online shopping sites like Amazon.
Needless to say, the Super Mario Bros version features popular characters and items from the long-running Nintendo franchise.
This includes characters like Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi and Princess Peach, as well as Goombas, eggs, warp pipes, mystery blocks and power-ups.
Each card is unique, and only has one image in common with every other card in the deck.
The symbols on the cards also come in different sizes and are placed in random positions, making it even harder to spot the similarities.
It’s easy to set up, enormously entertaining and incredibly addictive. Packaged in a small tin, it’s also the perfect game to take on holiday, especially if you’re going away with the family.
I’ve been playing regular Dobble with my family for years, and am really looking forward to trying the Super Mario Bros version.
Super Mario Dobble is the latest in a long line of spinoffs for the popular card game, which also has versions based on the likes of Harry Potter, Friends, Marvel and Pokemon.
Likewise, there’s waterproof Dobble for rainy holidays in the UK, not to mention Dobble XXL for fans looking for a more physical game.
Nintendo fans looking for a more traditional Mario experience in 2024 will have to make do with Mario and Luigi Brothership, which launches later this year for Nintendo Switch.
The Mario and Luigi role-playing game has a November 7 release date exclusively for the console.
The brand new adventure takes place on Shipshape Island, which is described as part ship, part island.
The brothers will explore the world of Concordia, visiting locations that range from tropical rainforests to bustling cities.
It will feature the series’ customary turn-based combat, which tasks players with performing interactive special moves to overcome common enemies and big bosses.
Fingers crossed we get a proper 3D Mario game next year, which is when the Switch successor is tipped to launch.
