Verphy Kudi left her 20-month-old baby alone for six days while she celebrated her 18th birthday in December 2019, Lewes Crown Court heard today. The child later starved to death. Ms Kudi, who is now 19, plead guilt to a charge of manslaughter at the court this morning.
She had been due to stand trial later this year but changed her plea at the last minute.
The case has been adjourned to a provisional sentencing date of May 28.
The court heard that Ms Kudi partied while her baby was left alone in her flat in Brighton, Sussex.
CCTV footage showed her leaving the flat on December 5, her 18th birthday, and not returning until December 11.
The infant was taken to Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination and forensic tests found that Asiah’s death was the result of neglect, a court heard.
The report found the child was starved, dehydrated and had contracted influenza.
Ms Kudi appeared before the court this morning wearing a blue disposable face mask, a plain black top and black trousers.

She held her hands to her face after the charge was read to her.
Judge Christine Laing QC told her: “You have heard that before I get to sentence you the defence want to get a report on your behalf and a doctor will no doubt make arrangements to see you and interview you over the next few weeks.”
The judge ordered that all social services records relating to the case be disclosed to the defence ahead of sentencing.
The 19-year-old was remanded in custody, having been imprisoned since she was charged with the offence in October last year.
