A New Jersey man has been accused of killing his mother, nine years after he was convicted of attempting to stab her to death.
Sean Daly, 53, was arrested and charged with murder for the death of Melba Daly, 74, at her home in Mays Landing, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
Melba Daly was found dead inside her home Wednesday morning by officers with the Hamilton Police Department, who were responding to a 911 call from the home about 17 miles inland from Atlantic City.
Hamilton police and investigators with the prosecutor’s office quickly identified Sean Daly as a suspect and arrested him.
Though cops did not release information about the murder weapon, the prosecutor’s office said Daly used a knife in the attack, Philadelphia CBS affiliate KYW reported. In addition to murder, he was charged with multiple weapons offenses.
Daly has a history of attacking his mother, according to court records. On March 3, 2015, he stabbed her multiple times at the same home.
After pleading guilty to attempted murder and aggravated assault, Daly served four years in prison, according to BreakingAC. He faced up to 30 years behind bars at the time of his arrest.
Daly remained in police custody Thursday pending a detention hearing, authorities said. This time, he faces up to life in prison if convicted of murder.
“This incident is currently being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit and the Hamilton Township Police Department,” prosecutors said in a press release. “Anyone with information about this incident or other serious crimes is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit.”
