MOST aspiring sportspeople end up failing to make it as a professional in their respective discipline.

And that includes a number of famous faces who went on to make a name for themselves in other creative ways.

Gordon Ramsay

Ramsey has appeared at Soccer Aid since being forced to retire from football as a teen[/caption]

Prior to his career as a celebrity chef, Ramsay pursued his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

He was offered a trial with Rangers at the age of 15 but ended up having to retire from the sport due to a number of frustrating injuries.

Despite not making it as a pro, he has used his cooking exploits to earn a spot a host of Soccer Aid matches.

The Rock is one of the biggest ever WWE stars[/caption]

A little harsh to put him in the camp of ‘almost’ making it in sport.

Johnson is one of the most famous WWE wrestlers of all time and was a world heavyweight champion on 10 separate occasions.

He enjoyed an iconic feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin, before paving the way for WWE stars in Hollywood.

Since Johnson, Steve Austin, John Cena and Dave Bautista have all featured in blockbuster films.

Jason Statham

Statham competed as a diver for England at the Commonwealth Games 32 years ago[/caption]

This one may surprise a lot of people.

But before Statham‘s USP was being a Hollywood hardman, he was actually a part of Britain’s National Diving Squad.

And he had success! In his early 20s he represented England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, finishing 10th in the 10m platform final.

What’s more, Statham grew up with Vinnie Jones – who went on to play for Wimbledon and then starred alongside Statham in the film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Kate Middleton

Middleton may now be a major part of the royal family, but she was once an avid sports competitor.

She played for her high school field hockey team and then went on to do the same at university.

And after meeting Prince William, she enjoyed a warm-up session with Team GB women’s Olympic hockey team at London 2012.

Terry Crews

Crews competed in the NFL back in the 1990s[/caption]

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Crews is known for his role as Lieutenant Terry Jeffords in the hit American comedy show.

But, quite remarkably, he was once a part of the NFL.

In 1991, the Los Angeles Rams drafted him in, before he also went on to play for the San Diego Chargers.

Gigi Hadid

Hadid has made herself a global star through her successful modelling career.

But as a youngster she was the captain of her high school volleyball team and had once hoped to turn professional.

When asked about her playing days on Jimmy Fallon in 2019, she said: “You probably would have gotten scared of me.”

Tomlinson joined Doncaster Rovers for the 2013-14 season[/caption]

He may be a world renowned popstar, but Tomlinson tried to make it as a footballer back in 2013 after One Direction had already risen to global prominence.

Nine years ago, he was signed by his hometown club Doncaster Rovers as they agreed a non-contract terms agreement.

Speaking about it at the time, he said: “It’s unbelievable really. I have been a massive football fan for a long time and growing up in Doncaster, I’ve been to plenty of games at the Keepmoat.

“To be part of the club is incredible.”

Despite the incredible move, Tomlinson only managed to feature for the reserve side – with 5,000 people turning out to watch him.
