Police said they were responding to concern for a woman on nearby Salisbury Crags. Five police vehicles, three ambulances, four fire engines plus incident response vehicles were spotted in the Holyrood Park carpark earlier this afternoon.

A mountain rescue team was also scrambled as emergency services gathered in the carpark between Arthur’s Seat and the Scottish Parliament building.

Parts of Holyrood Park have been sealed off.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers were called to Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh, following reports of concern for a woman.

“Police and other agencies are currently at the scene and areas of Holyrood Park are currently closed.”

The drama unfolded as inquiry into the Scottish government’s unlawful investigation of sexual harassment claims against former first minister Alex Salmond continued in the nearby parliament building.
