The Tory Employment Minister then backed what Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said in a press conference yesterday.

Speaking at Scotland Yard, the commissioner said: “I know Londoners will want to know that it is thankfully incredibly rare for a woman to be abducted from our streets.

“But I completely understand that despite this, women in London and the wider public – particularly those in the area where Sarah went missing – will be worried and may well be feeling scared.”

Ms Davies then said on Question Time: “We’ve got more police officers coming on the street and Cressida Dick was right to say this is very rare in terms of something happening and absolutely reassuring that this is something that is taken seriously.”
