Conservative Assembly Member Susan Hall asked Mr Khan how “poor and disabled” residents in London would manage in the event TfL’s new scrappage scheme runs out of money. It comes after she claimed to have heard the fund was running “very low” with still two weeks to go before the new Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) expansion comes into force.
Mr Khan used this to hit back at the Conservatives adding: “The intention is those who need support, gets support.
“Any success we get from the Government will add to that as well.”
She replied: “You say that but actually if it runs out before the 25th, how do the poor Londoners and disabled Londoners manage then.
“Are you looking to put some more money back into that scheme?”
“I’m very concerned, as I know a lot of my colleagues are, that people don’t realise this is coming and will be devastated once this has come in.”
She added: “Constantly just asking the Government isn’t the answer.
“You have got the money in that fund.”
Mr Khan replied: “I understand why the Tories are embarrassed by the lack of help from the Government.”
