Royal Lodge: Inside Sarah Ferguson's 'beautiful' royal residence – 'very impressive'

Prince Andrew moved into Royal Lodge in Windsor permanently in 2002 after the Queen Mother’s death, and Sarah Ferguson followed suit in 2008 despite getting divorced in 1996. Their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie both lived in Royal Lodge for a number of years before they got married, and also spent a large portion of their childhood there. Both the York Princesses celebrated their wedding receptions at Royal Lodge, and the stunning interior would not have disappointed the royal wedding guests.

The wooden design features a large vanity mirror with wings, and on top was a white and gold flower vase and a selection of metal dishes.

It sat next to wardrobes with cream doors and metallic gold handles.

Photos show Royal Lodge having an impressive white exterior, and it is set within 21 acres of secluded gardens, offering plenty of space for a private evening wedding reception, which both Princesses took advantage of.

Royal fans got a peek inside the family home when the Duchess of York shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the royal wedding in October on Twitter.

The mother of the bride posed in a hallway to showcase her outfit, but many were more distracted by the look inside the royal residence, which had framed family photos on the walls, cream carpets, and green walls.

Since the first lockdown in 2020, Sarah has shared a series of YouTube videos from the conservatory, with one photo showing the impressive drinks cabinet they have, holding bottles of wine and port, tonic water, several glasses and paper straws.

Another clip from Sarah’s YouTube series offered a glimpse inside the dining room.

It is decorated with concrete flooring and burnt orange walls and has large white wooden double doors.

Royal fans love the glimpses they get to see inside Royal Lodge. One wrote on Instagram: “Beautiful house! Wow, definitely very impressive – love the history of it too!”

Sarah’s birthday message to Prince Andrew on Instagram showed him sat with their two dogs in a living room, which has floor-length curtains hanging at the windows, and a patterned rug on the hardwood flooring next to the sofa.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie grew up at Royal Lodge in Windsor, and a wooden swing engraved with Eugenie’s name still remains in the garden, which the Princess revealed on Instagram.

Elsewhere in the garden, two wooden benches have been placed under the trees, where Princess Eugenie’s personalised swing can be seen in the background.

Sarah shared a look at the property’s terrace when she showed off a special charity T-shirt she was wearing in July on Instagram. There is a patio area at the back of the house, with a wooden dining table and two benches where the family can sit outdoors during the hot summer weather.

The garden looks pristine, with a wooden bench positioned underneath a tree looking out across the lawn. The Queen also spent a large portion of her childhood at Royal Lodge and was even photographed playing the piano there in 1942.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne also enjoyed playing on the grounds of Royal Lodge in Windsor as it was their grandmother’s home and were photographed having fun in 1954.

Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones also announced their engagement in a photocall at Royal Lodge in Windsor in 1960. The newly-engaged couple posed in the gardens of Royal Lodge Windsor after announcing their engagement.
