Roger Federer surrendered a one-set lead as he exited the Qatar Open in the quarter-finals with a defeat to Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Swiss has this week made his long-awaited return from a knee injury and it is evident that it will take a while to get back to his best form.
As the second seed Federer received a bye in the first round. He then went the distance to see off his training partner and British No 1 Dan Evans in round two.
That sed up a clash with world No 42 Basilashvili – which proved to be a step too far.
