Queens twins whose dad allegedly tried to drown them at Connecticut beach are back home with mom

Toddler twins whose unhinged father allegedly tried to drown them in the water off a Connecticut beach have been released from a hospital and are back at their Queens home.

The little boy and girl were released last week — a day after celebrating their third birthday at Yale New Haven Hospital, where they spent nearly two weeks after their dad, Romney Desronvil, 41, brought them to West Haven, Conn., and dragged them into Long Island Sound.

Police Officers Makiem Miller and Ian Williamson, on patrol around 2:30 a.m. on June 22, saw a Nissan SUV parked on the beach and heard screaming coming from the water, West Haven police said in a statement\. They also saw two kids being dragged offshore — and jumped into the water to grab them from Desronvil as he tried to pull them further away.

Desronvil reportedly had been having trouble with the twins’ mother and drove from their Flushing home to to see a friend in West Haven, who wasn’t home at the time. He then went to the beach, clutching each child in his arms as he stepped into the water.

After their rescue by police, the children spent days in intensive care at a local hospital, and were reunited on their birthday — along with the officers who saved them, the West Haven Police Department said.

West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer arranged transport for the twins and their mom back to their home in New York.

“These children continue to amaze all of us,” Borer told the Hartford Courant last week. “We are grateful for the critical care they received and are elated they were able to go to their own home for the rest of their recovery.”

Desronvil is jailed on $2 million bail, charged with two counts of attempted murder, risk of injury to a child and first-degree reckless endangerment. The children’s rescuers are set to be honored at a July police commission meeting, the Courant reported.
