Queen looking for employee to work on royal archives – warns deadlines 'will stretch you'

The Royal Household is offering a new opportunity to a job applicant dreaming to be based at Windsor Castle. However, it warned the “deadlines and standard of work” will be testing.

The Royal Household has shared a new job advert for the position of Digitisation Technician.

The new hire would join a team of experts at the Queen’s Berkshire home to work between February 2022 and March 2023.

During this time, the perfect candidate will tackle the challenge to “digitise material held by the Royal Archives and the Royal Collection, producing valuable content for high profile public access.”

The job specification read: “You’ll capture and produce high quality images of documentary items, before transferring them to permanent storage.

“You’ll analyse every digital image for quality and metadata compliance, carrying out vital quality assurance checks.”

After warning the tight deadlines and high standards will “stretch” the employee, the job specification added: “You’ll be supported all the way, and you’ll be driven by the experience you’ll gain working with these fascinating collections.

“And every day your work will allow a broader audience to engage with items from the Royal Archives the Royal Collection.”

The perfect candidate for this role already has experience in “capturing and producing high quality digital images”, the job specification read.

The job advert also said: “Ideally, you’ll also have experience of working with archival and other documentary material and excellent knowledge of workflows in a digital environment.

“Good organisational and planning skills are essential, as you’ll be meeting regular project deadlines.

“Self-motivated with a meticulous eye for detail, you’re confident creating and interpreting metadata, meeting all current metadata standards.

“With excellent communication skills, you’ll be able to work both independently and in a small team to achieve consistently high standards.”

The salary for this full-time role amounts to approximately £24,000 per annum.

The position also comes with a series of benefits, including training.

Another job opening at Windsor Castle is for a skilled gardener.

Windsor has been the main residence of the Queen since the beginning of the pandemic.

In March 2020, as the first wave of Covid infection was hitting the country, Her Majesty left her palace in London for her home in Berkshire.

She was met there by her husband Prince Philip, who was helicoptered to Windsor from his five-bedroom cottage in Sandringham.

The monarch has since visited Buckingham Palace only a handful of times for reasons linked to her duties.

In May, she travelled to the palace ahead of the State Opening of Parliament.

In June, she returned there for her first in-person audience with Boris Johnson since March 2020.

Again in October, the monarch was at Buckingham Palace for the launch of the Queen’s Baton Relay, ahead of the beginning of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The monarch has also spent the past two Christmases at Windsor Castle due to the pandemic.
