Paris Saint-Germain starlet Xavi Simons and four other players have been expelled from Holland’s U19 camp for breaking the team’s Covid bubble after two of them invited a girl to their hotel room.
Simons, 18, along with Ajax youngsters Ar’jany Martha, Naci Unuvar, Rio Hillen and Feyenoord’s Mimeirhel Benita were all sent home by manager Bert Konterman and were absent from the 3-0 defeat by Italy on Monday.
According to De Telegraaf, the girl was invited to the hotel by Martha and Benita. Simons, Hillen and Unuvar went to check what was happening after hearing loud music but immediately returned to their own room.

However, the three players were spotted by a member of the national team’s staff, who then informed Konterman of their involvement in the situation.
As a result, Konterman decided to send all five players home.
The report states that Solomon Bonnah (RB Leipzig), Youri Regeer (Ajax) and Emanuel Emegha (Sparta Rotterdam) had tried to say it would be unfair to send Simons, Hillen and Unuvar home, as the girl had not been in their room. But Konterman stood his ground.
A spokesperson for the Dutch national team told De Telegraaf: ‘Martha, Benita, Unuvar, Hillen and Simons have broken the bubble of the team and, therefore, they have returned to their clubs.

‘To prevent contagion within national teams there are protocols.
‘A so-called “soccer bubble” is being created and tests are also being carried out. In this way, the possibility of infections within a team is minimal.’
Simons, who has won the youth Ballon d’Or four times, is highly thought of at PSG and was given his first team debut in Februray this year, at the age of 17.
The midfielder progressed through the youth ranks at Barcelona and was linked with moves to Chelsea and Real Madrid before being poached by PSG in 2019.
He was only 16 when Barca put what they thought was an attractive offer on the table.

The proposed deal would have seen him earn £179,000 in his first season with bonuses if he made the breakthrough into the Barcelona B team. He would have experienced pre-season with the Under 19s and then played for the club’s U18s side.
Simons, represented by super agent Mino Raiola – who has the likes of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in his stable – made the decision to join PSG. The offer was believed to be double the one supplied by Barcelona.
Despite his tender age, Xavi Simons has 3.6million Instagram followers and already has his own trademark celebration where he puts his hand to ear with his thumb at the top and little finger at the bottom to resemble a telephone.
