“In other words, if you think about our list – size, location, condition and price – you could tick the location and price boxes, but not condition and size.
“This is where compromise comes into it because if you compromise on the location, you’ll probably find you can stay within the same budget and yet, maybe get a bigger property and possibly even one that’s in a better condition.”
However, Ms Fletcher did suggest that if you’re willing to do the work, you may be able to check off more of your new home requirements.
If you buy a two-bedroom property that has the scope to extend upwards or outwards, you may be able to have a loft conversion or extension.
That means you may be able to buy a property within your budget, in the area you’re looking.
The property may not be the right size or in the condition you want it to be in, but these are changes you could make later on down the line.
