Garden centre and home improvement specialists Wickes will be celebrating and rewarding the best home offices and working from home offices with the launch of the Wickes 2021 Home Office Awards. With more Britons working from home, many of us have been forced to get creative with our office spaces. Whether it’s a shed office or a desk under the stairs, Wickes are planning to celebrate everything – no matter the size or the cost.
Wickes has been looking on social media at people’s home office set ups while also helping customers create their own impressive work spaces.
Property expert Phil Spencer and A Place in the Sun presenter and interior designer Ben Hillman will be judging the home offices along with buyers for Wickes’ new Home Office and Hub Garden range.
The lucky winners, which includes five short-listed winners and an overall winner – will receive Wickes vouchers to put towards their next home improvement project.
Not everyone has the luxury of a home office, a spare room or even a dining room table to work from.

Some home workers have had to get creative outdoors.
Among the awards is “The Sensational Shed Award” for a working from home space located within a garden outbuilding, converted shed or external space outside of the home.
Phil, who has worked on Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location alongside Kirstie Allsopp, spoke to Express.co.uk exclusively about the awards and the value a garden office could add to your home.
The property expert said he has seen many people he knows putting home offices in their gardens.
He explained: “I’ve got several friends who have put these smart office pods over the past six months.

“I know several people with shepherd’s huts that are using those a great deal more.”
Phil mentioned that shepherd’s huts can act as a private space for those in large, busy households.
He continued: “I’ve seen so many shed office companies advertising now.
“There are some really smart ones and some very expensive ones.
“But that extra space is as valuable as an extra bedroom. Possibly more so.
“Those kind of things – you’ve got to be careful which one you choose – but they’re likely to add to the value of the property more than they cost.”
Phil said when it comes to selling a property, vendors need to make it clear exactly what their house can offer.
He said: “There’s certainly a big marketing benefit when somebody is showing a house, and somebody has got a house up for sale.
“As a seller, you mustn’t leave things to a buyer’s imagination. You must really spell it out for them that this is where the home office can be.
“Dress it up and make it look like an office.
“And with a shed, it’s easy enough to say ‘you could put a shed in the garden’ but actually pop a shed in the garden, it might put £15,000 on the value of the house.”
He added: “All of these – which is what the competition will bring to light – they can be done in an expensive and glamorous way but they can also be done very much on the cheap.”
Phil said he’s looking forward to seeing the “creative and well-thought-out” home offices.
