Kevin Hughes, 60, made vile comments about the acts he wanted to perform on the ’12-year-old’ who was actually a woman from a paedophile hunter group, Liverpool Echo reports.

A court heard Hughes used online forum to chat to who he thought was a girl, and he claimed he was aged 28.

When he was rumbled, police found 61 indecent images of children on his computer, 54 of which were unique while others were duplicates.

Sarah Griffin, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court details about Hughes’ messages on the forum.

Ms Griffin said: “When she states that she doesn’t know if girls her age are allowed to know things about sex, he states that he knows two girls who like to [perform sex acts].”

Hughes added that afterwards “the boys buy them Maccies [McDonald’s] and credit for fones”.

But the court heard Hughes lost his job as a taxi driver since his arrest and has since lived on the streets.

So, Judge Gary Woodhall gave the dad a 10-month sentence suspended for two years and was ordered to complete 40 Rehabilitation Activity Requirements and 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for seven years.

Sentencing, the judge said: “You are 60 years of age, of previous good character.

“I have read the pre sentence report and letter from your daughter and medical notes.

“Through the probation officer you have accepted full responsibility for what you have done.

“You have been denied contact with her adult children and denied contact with your son.”

The judge was told Hughes, from Birkenhead, Merseyside, “instigated a conversation of a sexual nature” with the ‘girl’ in exchanges which would go on for nearly four months in 2019.

Ms Griffin said:  “He initially asks Lucy Lou if she is curious and if she wants to talk about ‘naughty things’.”

Hughes also stated “lots of girls around your age [perform sex acts]”.

Ms Griffin explained Hughes asked ‘Lucy Lou’ if she wanted a picture of him after which he sent a picture of his face and asked her to do the same.

Another member of the paedophile hunter group created an account as an adult female in an effort to get contact information but Hughes didn’t respond to a message to meet up, after which a third member got in touch.

They pretended to be from an ‘online safety group’ and asked Hughes to meet them outside a police station, which he did and after which he was arrested.

Hughes, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possessing 61 indecent images of children, making the images and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Quentin Neal, defending, said: “In the pre sentence report he shows remorse.

“He lost his home and since these offences was on the streets for a short period of time.

“I would ask your honour to hold back from an immediate custodial sentence.”

He told the court he suffers from mental health difficulties and Mr Neal added that there is a “prospect of rehabilitation”.
