Outraged Strictly fans call for Steve Allen to be sacked and complain to Ofcom after he calls Tilly Ramsay ‘chubby’

STRICTLY Come Dancing fans have urged shock jock Steve Allen to be sacked after he passed comment on Tilly Ramsay’s appearance.

The 19-year-old was cruelly mocked by the LBC broadcaster about her weight live on-air as he called her a “chubby little thing”.

His controversial comments have been discussed at length online with many fans of the BBC ballroom stalwart insisting the radio presenter be reprimanded for his words and have reported him to Ofcom

Taking to Twitter, one penned: “@Ofcom the bodyshaming of Tilly Ramsey by LBC presenter Steve Allen is abhorrent.

“It is comments like this that cause eating disorders and stress to so many. For someone In the public eye he should know better. His comments were not funny and unwarranted.”

“@Ofcom complaint about @[email protected] allen,” another wrote. “Comments about Tilly Ramsey potentially very harmful, entirely unwarranted and clear example of poor, lazy broadcasting.

“No content, no thoughtful commentary, no understanding of the impact. Sanction required…..”

Another online penned: “I’m disgusted with the nasty comments by Steve Allen hope he gets sacked!!

“She’s a beautiful girl Gordon I’m sorry she received these nasty comments from that old git.”

“@lbc Steve Allen should be sacked for his comments, you are his employer and he has clearly brought your radio station to disrepute,” a Twitter user shared.

“Disgusting misogynistic human being. You are no better as you allow it to happen.”

Yesterday, Steve said: “She can’t blooming well dance. I’m bored of her already. She’s a chubby little thing, isn’t she, have you noticed? Probably her dad’s cooking, I should imagine.”

Tilly responded with a long note posted to her Instagram.

Tilly, who is the daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay, hit back straight away and called out LBC Radio’s Steve, reminding him that “words can hurt”.

She wrote: “I try not to read and listen to comments and negativity.

“However, recently being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far.

“Steve please feel free to voice your opinions, however I draw the line at commenting on my appearance. It’s such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative.

“This isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last comment made about my appearance. But please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19.

“I understand that being in the public eye obviously comes with its own repercussions and I’ve been aware of this from a young age. However, I won’t tolerate people that think it’s OK to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance.”

Tilly Ramsay

Tilly, who is the youngest competitor in the new series and one of the youngest in the show’s 17-year history, received an outpouring of support on social media.

Dad Gordon did not comment but other members of the Ramsay clan added their voices in support. Sister Holly, 21, wrote, “Very well said x #bekind”, while older sister Megan, 23, said, “Love you Tills”.

Strictly celebs and pro dancers have all rallied around her after the cruel taunt, including Ugo Monye.

The rugby player questioned Steve’s audacity to feel “comfortable enough” to judge Tilly based on her size.

“The fact that @steveallenshow said what he said on LBC isn’t the only issue here IMO,” Ugo tweeted.

“The wider societal problem here is that people feel comfortable enough to scrutinise the appearance of a young woman on national radio – why is it relevant?”
