Outlander season 6: Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan details ‘difficult’ intimate scenes

Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) romance captivated Outlander fans with their time-travelling love story. This was further enhanced by the racy scenes between the two, particularly in the first two seasons. While Claire and Jamie endured 20-years apart in different centuries, the passion between them is still there and fans have seen them in several intimate scenes since they reunited in season three.

With the series currently filming season six, Sam has reflected on the development of Claire and Jamie’s romance.

He explained recalled things have been a lot easier recently as he ditched a certain item from his wardrobe.

“Wearing the now infamous French knee-high buckle boots that took a good ten minutes to put on each morning – each boot had around fourteen buckles, which made ‘intimate scenes’ rather difficult to direct,” Sam recalled.

“How does Jamie get his boots off so quickly?”

Sam went on to reveal the boots cause so much trouble, they didn’t last long.

“They lasted two whole seasons, including boat journeys to the Caribbean and America,” he wrote in his book Clanlands.

Sam recently went revealed how his mum Chrissie feels about watching him strip off for sex scenes.

Appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, he explained: “So when I grew up we had a black and white television, it was one of those ones where you had to turn the dial to tune in.

However, Caitriona explained: “In the book there’s a very animalistic sex scene which felt completely inappropriate to show, especially so quickly after something so horrific.”

She noted it would “never have worked” if they had recreated the scene for television and would have potentially received backlash.

“In the book that can work because when you’re inside someone’s head and you’re intimately connected to Claire’s thoughts, it’s exactly what she wants in that moment,” she told ELLE.

We tried as much as we could to take the core of Diana’s storyline and translate it in a way that worked for our characters but also for a modern audience.”
