Olivia Munn underwent hysterectomy after breast cancer diagnosis

Olivia Munn revealed she recently underwent a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

The 43-year-old actress, known for roles in “The Newsroom” and “The Daily Show,” said she also froze some of her eggs before undergoing a double mastectomy as part of her treatment plan for the aggressive disease.

“It was a big decision to make,” she shared in a Vogue magazine interview published on Mother’s Day.

“It was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family,” explained Munn, who shares a 2-year-old son, Malcolm, with comedian John Mulaney. “I had friends try to cheer me up by saying, ‘Malcolm’s not going to remember this. Don’t worry.’ But I just kept thinking to myself, ‘I’m going to remember this, that I missed all these things.’ It’s his childhood, but it’s my motherhood, and I don’t want to miss any of these parts if I don’t have to.”

“I have now had an oophorectomy and hysterectomy…I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries,” she disclosed.

In March, the “Violet” star announced in an Instagram post that she had been fighting luminal B breast cancer in both her breasts for nearly a year. She tested negative for BRCA, the most well-known cancer gene, and had a clear mammogram in 2023.

Mulaney, who battled a drug addiction in recent years, told the outlet that the couple “have been through a lot of things together in the past couple years.”

The pair have been romantically linked since May 2021 and introduced their first child together in December of that year.

“You start thinking about your mortality differently once you have a baby,” she said.

Munn, who had undergone egg retrievals when she was in her 30s, said she did it again because “we don’t feel like we’re done growing our family.”
