Nottingham Forest confirm Chris Hughton has been SACKED – extending a run of sacking a manager EVERY YEAR since 2010 – with the club stuck bottom of the Championship

Nottingham Forest have sacked Chris Hughton after a woeful run of six defeats in seven games has left them stranded to the bottom of the Championship table.

Hughton was already under huge scrutiny after the club’s winless start to the season, and the defeat to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night sealed his fate.

The 62-year-old’s axing continues Forest’s trend of parting with a manager every year since 2010.

Steven Reid will take temporary charge of the first team as interim head coach while the club search for a permanent successor to Hughton.

Former Chelsea defender John Terry had been linked with the post but ruled himself out of the running earlier this week.

Terry, who is looking for his first job in management after leaving his position as Aston Villa No 2 back in July, said: ‘I just want to distance myself from the Nottingham Forest job, and all the speculation surrounding myself with the job.

‘Unfortunately I can’t control the media, but it’s important to know it has nothing to do with me whatsoever.

‘Chris is the manager and someone I have a lot of respect for. I wish Chris and the team all the very best for the season.

‘It’s unfair when Chris is in a job to put my name to something.’

It’s unclear whether or not Terry’s stance on the job will change now the position is vacant.

Ex-Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is also a reported candidate for the job.

Hughton leaves Forest bottom of the table with just one point from seven matches.

Forest will hope for a change of fortunes when they travel to sixth-place Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon.
