A BASEBALL fan gave a new meaning to catch of the day after making an unorthodox sandwich.
During the Boston Red Sox 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays last Thursday an unsuspecting fan made a small mark in history with a never-before-seen catch.

With Jays batsman Bo Bichette hitting a foul ball into the stands to his right, nothing more was thought of it until it was revealed where the ball had ended up.
A Red Sox fan sitting 10 rows up was seen looking down at the chair next to him before raising the ball in his hand.
Fans commonly catch foul balls and home runs with a baseball mitt.
However, as opposed to it simply being in his hand, the fan had raised the ball into the air wrapped around a plate of fried dough.
Reacting to the remarkable catch on social media as the clip went viral, one fan said: “What great hands… or great Pita or whatever the heck that was!”
A second said: “No way.”
A third added: “Baseball sub.”
Another said: “Who needs a glove.”
The fan was later tracked down by WCVB Channel 5 Boston and was revealed to be a Red Sox from Ipswich, Massachusetts named Max Kivekas, who showed off the ball which was still covered in sugar.
Speaking about his one-of-a-kind catch, Mr Kivekas told the news channel: “I sort of like raised my shoulder – like the fried dough was here (gesturing to chest) – I kind of got it and it actually got trapped right in the fried dough.
“The ball went right in it and I was like, ‘there’s a souvenir’.”
The crowd cheered the stunning catch, with Mr. Kivekas revealing one fan brought him a beer in celebration.
Asked about keeping the fried dough with the ball, he added: “Oh no, no, I was keeping that fried dough with me.
“I definitely wanted that after.”
The match was his third game in a row, although it turned out he had called in sick from work earlier that day to attend, with Mr. Kivekas being caught “sugar-handed” by his boss.
His boss had been giving him a hard time at work, until he saw the video of the catch with the fried dough.
He continued: “It was awesome, a once in a lifetime experience.”
The Red Sox went on to lose their next two games against their namesake, the Chicago White Sox.
The first of these was an 11-1 crushing the following Saturday, before a narrow 3-2 defeat immediately after.
But Alex Cora’s team finally got the better of the White Sox with a 3-1 win on Sunday to move to a record of eight wins and nine defeats.
They face the Tampa Bay Rays next.
