NJ woman arrested after ‘disturbing’ video shows assault on 8-week-old baby

A New Jersey woman has been arrested on child abuse charges after a video circulating on social media earlier this week showed her assaulting an 8-week-old baby, authorities said.

Vivian Harrell, 37, was arrested Wednesday after multiple people contacted the Trenton Police Department to report a “disturbing” video depicting an individual covering the face of a baby, “possibly blocking the infant’s airway.”

The individual was also “speaking in vulgar, derogatory language” and “pushing the infant’s head,” officials said.

The video triggered an investigation by the department’s special victims unit and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, which later identified the suspect as Harrell. Her relationship to the baby was not immediately made clear.

Harrell was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree aggravated assault.

The baby did not have any visible injuries, police told News 12 New Jersey.
