The man was gobsmacked after his “Karen like” vegan neighbour confronted him about making beef jerky outside because her family didn’t eat meat. He says he loves beef jerky and has been making his own for a few years with a dehydrator in the garden.
He said his old neighbours loved it and he would give them a bag whenever he made some, but his new neighbours are not so impressed.
The meat fanatic says he previously had a good relationship with the neighbours when they moved in six months ago, but that has gone horribly wrong after she “rudely” complained about the smell.
Writing on Reddit, he explained: “The female neighbour knocked on our door and asked if we could stop making beef jerky outside because her and her husband are vegans, and the smell is making them sick.
“She wasn’t nice about this, quite rude, almost Karen like.”

The defensive neighbour says he told them he would rather not make beef jerky inside because the smell is so strong it fills the house.
He explained that he only makes it once every two or three months and offered to move the dehydrator further away from their side in the hope of alleviating the odour.
Upset by the neighbour’s reaction, he added: “Last week I was making jerky again and sure enough she knocks on the door, this time much angrier and more demanded we stop because it was making her and her child sick. I told her that no, I wouldn’t stop and perhaps they could close up their house or something.”
He said that he did feel bad because he understood where she was coming from and asked Reddit users if he was in the wrong.

One user was firmly on his side saying: “People BBQ in their backyards all the time and that smell goes everywhere! Is she going to go tell everyone they can’t BBQ in their backyards either because the smell of hotdogs and ribs are overwhelming? The entitlement of some people baffles my mind.”
Another said they could see where the neighbour was coming from: “Dehydrating meat is pretty strong. And it lingers. My dad used to take between 10 – 15 hours and you would still catch a whiff of it around on day two.
“Smells and noise is just part of living beside other humans, but the neighbours are being a bit unreasonable. But also, he could have tried to find some middle ground by giving them a heads up it was jerky day given he knew it was a problem the last time around.”
A third hit out: “He literally said they didn’t want to do it indoors because it SMELLS. Dude, if you don’t want the smell of dehydrating meat lingering in your house, you can imagine why they wouldn’t want it stinking out their garden.”
