The Los Angeles Police Department is gearing up to arrest multiple gang members in connection with the shooting death of “General Hospital” star Johnny Wactor, according to reports.
Authorities issued a series of search warrants targeting members of the Florencia 13 gang early Thursday, TMZ reported. Sources told the outlet that fingerprints found on the scene provided the breakthrough they needed in the case.
Wactor was shot “without provocation” in the early hours of May 25, after he ended his shift at Level 8, a nightclub in downtown Los Angeles. At around 3:25 a.m., Wactor interrupted a group of thieves that had his car “raised up with a floor jack and were in the process of stealing the catalytic converter,” police said in a statement.
Just before he was shot, Wactor had been with a female co-worker, and he immediately stepped in to shield her from the gunfire, according to his family and friends.
Earlier this month, authorities released surveillance images of three unidentified suspects — one of whom had distinct facial tattoos — as well as their getaway car, a stolen 2018 black Infiniti Q50.
News of the arrests comes just days after Wactor’s friends and family called on the public and officials to do everything they can to find and convict his killers.
“Grief is my constant companion,” his mother, Scarlett Wactor, said Tuesday. “I can’t wish him happy birthday on Aug. 31 — he would have been 38. I can’t ask if he’s coming home for Christmas. I can’t ask how his day went.”
Wactor, a South Carolina native, portrayed Brando Corbin on ABC soap opera “General Hospital” from 2020 to 2022. He also appeared in films and TV series including “Station 19,” “NCIS” and “Westworld.”
