‘Mood is entirely different!’ Sophie Wessex unveils parenting trick to avoid arguments

Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward married in Windsor Castle more than 20 years ago. The couple now have two children, Lady Louise Windsor, 17, and James Viscount Severn, 13. What has the family been up to since the beginning of the pandemic and what does this say about their parenting techniques?

She said: “There were certainly moments when I think we all felt a bit low.

“But then you have to sit there and go, hang on – look at our wonderful surroundings, we are very, very lucky, and so many other people are not in that situation.”

However, like in every family, there were times when the children argued.

But Sophie shared a trick to prevent these arguments or cut them short if they happened.

“Louise would take herself off on her bike, and James is very self-motivated to get out, so actually, it was never a struggle.”

Both Louise and James are active children and have been encouraged by their parents to participate for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).

Louise will complete her gold award expedition next summer, while James will begin his bronze award activities.

Speaking about Louise’s DofE experiences, the Countess said: “She’s loved it, it’s really pushed her into doing things that she’s had to schedule into her routine.

“She’s quite a committed person anyway.

“This is the kind of thing that really ticks the boxes for her. But in terms of confidence, it’s given her a huge amount.

“She’s taken up fencing again as her skill, which she has really loved.”
