A bank card belonging to missing college student Riley Strain was found near the Cumberland River in Nashville, police said.
Two women assisting in the search for Strain were sorting through trash by the river when they found the card, local NBC affiliate WSMV reported.
“There is so much trash down there it’s so much to sift through, and there’s so many pieces of clothing, shoes, bottles, cans, everything,” one of the women, Anna Clendening, told the outlet. “I don’t really know how we found it. I would love to say just dumb luck, divine intervention. It was just sitting there.”
Strain, 22, was last seen just before 10 p.m. on March 8. He was visiting Nashville along with many of his fraternity brothers at the University of Missouri but had been kicked out of country singer Luke Bryan’s bar.
According to Strain’s friends, he told them he planned to walk back to their hotel. However, surveillance cameras in the city last captured Strain walking in the opposite direction, about one mile from the bar.
On Monday, Nashville police released body-camera footage that showed Strain’s brief interaction with a police officer that night. The two men greeted each other, and the officer asked how he was doing.
“I’m good, how are you?” Strain responded. The officer said he was good as well, and Strain continued walking past.
Cops said Monday that there was no evidence of foul play in Strain’s disappearance. On Sunday afternoon, searchers found a body in the Cumberland River but quickly determined it was probably not Strain.
Luke’s 32 Bridge, the bar that kicked Strain out, claimed that he purchased a single alcoholic beverage and two waters while inside.
