Chelsea striker Timo Werner admits he can’t believe he still has the backing of the fans after his struggles in front of goal.
The German international has scored 18 goals in 79 appearances for the Blues since joining from RB Leipzig for £53million in 2020.
But it is the amount of gilt-edged chances the 25-year-old has missed which has really caught the eye.

However, Werner says he can still count on the support of the fans.
Speaking to Sky Sports and Premier League broadcaster Lynsey Hooper, he said: ‘Sometimes I don’t know why they are supporting me so much, because I’m a striker and I want to score but miss chances.
‘It makes it so fun to play in front of the Chelsea fans & when they give the support they give me, it makes me stronger when I miss chances or have hard times.

‘I try to give my best every game, 100% to make sure the team are happy.’
Werner missed 18 big chances last season, according to the Premier League.
But it was his horror miss against Real Madrid in the Champions League which laid bare his poor record in front of goal.
Werner was just six yards when his weak strike was saved by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois last March.
