Manchester United’s swap deal plan for Harry Kane as Tottenham star contemplates exit

0

Manchester United’s interest in Tottenham striker Harry Kane is an open secret. The Red Devils have long admired the England international and, this summer, could finally bring him to Old Trafford. However, it may need to be via a swap deal.

Manchester United have seen Edinson Cavani flourish of late, with the Uruguay international scoring seven goals from his last six matches across all competitions.

However, despite that, the Red Devils are eyeing a move for Kane.

The England international has been a shining light amid a problematic season for Tottenham, scoring 21 goals from 32 matches in the Premier League alone.

Tottenham look set to miss out on Champions League qualification, particularly after their 3-1 loss to Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

And Kane could now be about to leave Tottenham behind.

The 27-year-old feels Spurs aren’t in a position to be challenging for the biggest trophies on offer, something he desperately craves.

And whether they offer players to Tottenham as bait to let Kane go remains to be seen.

David De Gea could be one name involved, with the Spain international currently below Dean Henderson in the pecking order.

Though the Red Devils still value the veteran, they can’t afford for their highest-earner to be a bit-part player at the club.

Jesse Lingard is another who would make sense to use, too.

The England international has dazzled at West Ham ever since joining in January, scoring nine goals and registering there assists from 12 matches in the top flight.

And other players who United may use include Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, with both players struggling for form this term.

Meanwhile, speaking recently, Teddy Sheringham expressed a belief that Kane would be major signing for United if they could get a deal over the line.

“You’re talking about Harry Kane. He is the top number nine in the world for me,” Sheringham told bookmakers.co.uk.

“People talk about Haaland who is a very good youngster coming through with unbelievable promise, but Harry Kane is the best number nine in the world.

“From a Manchester United point of view, if you can get him, then go get him.

“Tottenham supporters won’t want to hear that, but they’ve heard it for the last three years – Harry Kane is a big money player, he’s the best and everybody wants him.”

Sheringham also hailed Cavani, admitting it’s a shame the United striker isn’t younger.

At 34, he’s approaching the twilight years of his career.

And Sheringham said: “It’s a shame he’s not four or five years younger, but he’s still doing a job, he still leads the line well.

“He’s a fantastic player and has been over the years and he’s showing touches of absolute sheer class and sometimes that’s the difference between putting the ball in the back of the net and getting your team three points or settling for a draw.

“These players with that quality make a difference.”
