Manchester United ‘set sights on Milan’s Franck Kessie if Paul Pogba leaves on a free’… but face competition from Barcelona, PSG, Liverpool and Tottenham for midfield star
- Man United are considering Franck Kessie as a replacement for Paul Pogba
- Pogba could leave United for free next summer when his contract expires
- Ivory Coast midfielder Kessie is also near the end of his deal with AC Milan
- Barcelona, PSG, Tottenham and Liverpool are also keen to snap up the player
Paul Pogba has made one of the best starts to a season of his Manchester United career but the club are already preparing for a possible future without him and have identified AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie as a potential replacement.
Pogba has less than a year left on his contract and although reports emerged last week that he could yet be convinced to stay at Old Trafford following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, there is still a serious prospect the Frenchman could leave for free.
Kessie, 24, is an attractive option for United as he too has run down his contract and would be available for nothing should Pogba leave for Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Juventus next summer without a transfer fee.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo has reported that United are among several top clubs pursuing Kessie, who has powered AC Milan’s midfield for the last five years.
Kessie has been a huge part of Milan’s recent revival and helped propel them back into the Champions League, scoring 13 goals from midfield last season in Serie A as the club finished second in the standings, their best league finish since 2012.
But he is stalling on contract talks with Milan, with a host of top clubs circling and waiting to pounce from January, when Kessie will be allowed to speak to other teams about a transfer.

The report says Barcelona are looking into signing Kessie to bolster their midfield, after losing out on signing Georginio Wijnaldum when PSG offered to double the Dutchman’s wages.
But Barca are fearful history could repeat itself with Kessie as PSG also have experience of signing players from Milan for fee after bringing in Italy goalkeeper as Gianluigi Donnarumma last summer.
In addition to PSG and Barca, Man United could face competition a little closer to home for Kessie as the report added that Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in the midfielder.
