Had Dortmund sold Jadon Sancho to United last summer, the prospects of the Red Devils landing Haaland would have been remote.
Yet given the England international stayed at the Westfalenstadion in the end, that could end up being an advantage.
United now appear to have moved away from Sancho and would prefer to sign his Dortmund team-mate instead.
Signing Sancho would have been a financial nightmare, too, with the Bundesliga giants demanding a massive £108million back in the summer.
But, because of United choosing to save their cash, it means they have money in the bank for a deal for Haaland.
