‘Good riddance… he embodies everything that’s wrong with the club’: Manchester United fans welcome reports that Paul Pogba will leave in the summer and has already opened talks with PSG over a free transfer

  • Paul Pogba’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of this season
  • The French World Cup winner looks unlikely to extend his deal at this stage
  • Latest reports state that Pogba has already opened talks about a move to PSG
  • And United fans have been reacting online to Pogba’s potential departure

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has reportedly opened talks about a free transfer to PSG this summer – with Utd fans welcoming the news online.

Pogba’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and at this stage an extension seems unlikely given the uncertainty surrounding the manager’s position as well as his own form.

The French World Cup winner – who previously played for Juventus before re-joining United for £89m in 2016 – has long been linked with a move abroad and French outlet Footy Mercato state that brining Pogba in is PSG sporting director Leonardo’s top priority this summer.

The report adds that the 30-year-old is keen to make the move to the French capital, while former club Juve are not interested in bringing him in on a free.

In response to the report, most United fans welcomed the news of Pogba’s imminent departure, with one saying: ‘Good riddance. To me, he embodies everything that’s wrong with the club at the moment.

‘On massive wages, only tries when he has to and has never really committed to making our team better. Seeing him go will be the beginning of the cull and, hopefully, we can begin to learn from our mistakes. Even if this one was an expensive mistake to make.’

Pogba said recently that he is'not satisfied' with his time at Man Utd since returning in 2016

Pogba said recently that he is ‘not satisfied’ with his time at Man Utd since returning in 2016

Along similar lines, another said: ‘Can’t wait. Such a disappointment. Man’s almost as lazy as Martial;’ while one fan stated: ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.’

Pogba’s arrival in 2016 was met with excitement by the majority but injuries, attitude and a variation in form mean he has only won two trophies at the club – and that was in his first season with the League Cup and Europa League.

One more user said: ‘A small step for Pogba, one giant leap for Man United. I think I can safely say that I’m not the only one who envisioned him lifting the Premier League as captain in the not too distant future when he signed.

‘Never been more wrong in my life. Goodbye Paul, you will not be missed.’

Speaking on his career at Old Trafford, Pogba said recently: ‘The last five seasons have not satisfied me – really not at all.

‘This year it is dead, we won’t win anything. Whether it is with Manchester United or at another club, I want to win trophies.’
