Manchester United decline Mino Raiola meeting over Erling Haaland transfer in sudden twist

0

Manchester United won’t be meeting with Mino Raiola to discuss a blockbuster deal for Erling Haaland, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund striker is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target ahead of the summer transfer window. But, for now, the Red Devils aren’t rushing into anything.

Unless you’ve been living in outer space, you’ll know United want to sign Haaland.

Though Solskjaer missed out on his compatriot back in the January transfer window of 2020, he remains eager to strike a deal.

United see Haaland as the ideal upgrade on Anthony Martial, who has scored just four Premier League goals this term.

And with Mason Greenwood too raw and inexperienced to lead the line on a weekly basis, they’re hoping to bring Haaland to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign.

The Borussia Dortmund star has been in devastating form this season, scoring a remarkable 31 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined.

Yet while United want Haaland, The Sun say they’ve declined the chance to meet with Raiola to discuss a deal.

The super-agent was recently spotted arriving in Barcelona for talks, with the 53-year-old also chatting to Real Madrid about a potential transfer.

On Friday, it was claimed he would sit down with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City that day to gauge their interest in Haaland.

But United would prefer to keep their distance for the time being, with Solskjaer’s side said to be ‘keeping tabs’ on the situation at the current moment in time.

Haaland previously played under Solskjaer at Molde.

But whether that plays a role in the striker’s next move remains to be seen, especially with so many of Europe’s top clubs keen to secure his signature.

Solskjaer was asked about Haaland in his pre-match press conference on Friday – and he attempted to downplay suggestions about a potential pursuit at the end of the campaign.

“Well, I’m focusing on the next two months and whatever happens in the world of football there is only so many places anyone can go to,” he said.

“As I said, we focus on the ones who are here and even though I worked with Erling it’s not right for me as Man United manager to talk about Erling.

“I can talk about him as an ex-coach of his, but he will make his own mind up.”

Solskjaer also recently admitted he’s still in touch with Haaland, saying: “It is clear that Erling is going to have a fantastic career.

“I follow Erling. I have always said that. Was it 18 months we had together or something like that?

“Almost two years, perhaps. A fantastic time. He will surely have a super career both for Norway and his club. He is doing incredibly well for Dortmund.

“We will see where he ends up. As a Norwegian and someone who has worked with him, it is of course great that he is doing so well.”

Raiola himself, meanwhile, has previously claimed just 10 clubs on the planet have the finances required to sign Haaland.

“It is obvious that everybody is looking at Erling as one of those potential new future stars because it’s so difficult to do what he does at his age at his level,” he said.

“He will be one of the future stars of the next decade because we see that stars such as Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo and Messi are coming to an age where everyone asks themselves: ‘How long can we still enjoy them?’ So everyone is looking for the new generation.

“Only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford to buy [Haaland] and give the platform you would like after you’ve been in Dortmund… and four of those clubs are in [England].

“I don’t think there’s a sports director or trainer in the world who would say ‘not interested’.

“It’s like saying: ‘Is there a Formula 1 team who would not be interested in having Lewis Hamilton?'”
