Man Utd boss Solskjaer makes David de Gea promise after picking Dean Henderson vs Brighton

Manchester United have two goalkeepers vying for the top spot at Old Trafford with Dean Henderson now challenging David de Gea. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has broken his silence on the situation.

Solskjaer has laid out a promise to De Gea after picking Henderson ahead of him against Brighton on Easter Sunday.

The two goalies are battling it out for the position of top dog at Old Trafford after a number of high-profile errors from the Spaniard.

De Gea has had 10 years at United but there are question marks over his future with Paris St-Germain and Juventus interested in his services.

In recent weeks, Henderson has taken over as No. 1 – though that can be put down to the fact that the former Atletico Madrid star was back in Spain to be there for the birth of his child.

But the Englishman has done more than hold his own and has told Solskjaer behind closed doors that he does not want to sit on the bench anymore.

With the European Championship up this summer, Henderson is keen to impress Gareth Southgate in what little time is left before the end of the season.

Alarm bells rang when Solskjaer picked the former Sheffield United loanee over his more senior team-mate against Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.

However, the Red Devils coach seemed to side with De Gea over who is the main man between the posts after insisting that the Spaniard will be back in the side soon.

When asked about the situation, Solskjaer said: “I’ve got two great keepers, two numbers ones.

“David de Gea spent a while back home and then he had internationals so he hadn’t played for about a month. He’ll definitely play football for us again.”

United came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 after goals from Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in the second-half cancelled out Danny Welbeck’s earlier strike.

With Leicester, Chelsea and Tottenham all dropping points, it has helped Solskjaer’s men consolidate a spot in the top four ahead of next year.
