Man City team news: Predicted XI vs West Ham as Pep Guardiola handed major injury scare

Manchester City are just one win away from claiming their fourth successive Premier League title ahead of their final-day meeting with West Ham United. Pep Guardiola’s side lead Arsenal by two points heading into the last round of fixtures, having boosted their title hopes with a win over Tottenham in midweek.

However, the superior goal difference enjoyed by the Gunners means that even a draw for City against the Hammers will open the door for Arsenal to pounce.

Express Sport takes a look at the City side that could be tasked with sealing Premier League glory this afternoon…

Goalkeeper – Ortega

Stefan Ortega will replace Ederson between the sticks for City, with their usual first-choice goalkeeper sidelined after suffering a facial fracture against Tottenham. Ortega produced a man-of-the-match display after coming off the bench to ensure victory in north London, pulling off a magnificent save to deny Son Heung-min late on.

The German stopper will be hoping to put in another solid performance against the Hammers to push City over the line.

Defence – Walker, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol

It would not be a surprise to see Guardiola name an unchanged back four against West Ham, with Manuel Akanji set to partner Ruben Dias at the heart of defence. The pair worked well together to keep a clean sheet against Tottenham and will be looking to avoid any slip-ups later today.

Kyle Walker is a certainty to start at right-back, with Josko Gvardiol retaining his place on the opposite flank ahead of Nathan Ake.

Midfield – Rodri, Kovacic, Bernardo

Rodri and Mateo Kovacic should start in midfield for City but they could be forced to go without Kevin De Bruyne, who is nursing an ankle injury. The Belgian playmaker was forced off against Tottenham and is likely to face a late fitness test, with Guardiola casting doubt over his participation in Friday’s press conference.

“We will see today,” said the Spaniard. “Yesterday we were off and today we’ve got training and I will see.”

Attack – Alvarez, Foden, Haaland

Julian Alvarez could be handed a start in City’s final game of the season if De Bruyne is ruled out through injury. If the Argentine is given the nod, he will almost certainly be joined by Phil Foden and Erling Haaland at the tip of City’s attacking trident.

Jeremy Doku might be hopeful of start after his impressive cameo against Tottenham, but the Belgian is more likely to have to settle for a spot on the bench.

Predicted Man City XI – Ortega; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic, Bernardo; Alvarez, Foden, Haaland.
