In the footage from the lockdown protests in London, large groups of people can be seen pushing police officers back as they tried to maintain order. The protesters also blocked Park Lane and marched through Hyde Park.

The Metropolitan Police Events tweeted: “As of 18:45hrs, 33 people have been arrested by officers policing the gatherings in central London.

“Most of the arrests have been for breaching COVID regulations.”

In a separate tweet, the Met Police said: “Our officers are continuing to engage with people attending the ongoing protests in Central London.

“Those gathering in crowds are being encouraged to disperse and go home.

“Officers will take enforcement action where necessary.

“This could be a fixed penalty notice, or arrest.

Prior to the protest unfolding the Met Police stated: “We’re aware groups are planning to travel into London today to protest.

“Our city remains in a health crisis, gatherings risk spreading the virus and are unlawful.

“We have a policing plan in place throughout the day.

“We’d urge people to reconsider protesting and stay home.”
