Lionel Messi faces a new PSG blow with the club ‘set to offload compatriots Angel di Maria, Mauro Icardi and Leandro Paredes this summer’… meaning he will be the only Argentinian remaining at the Parc des Princes next season

  • Lionel Messi appears likely to be the only Argentinian left at PSG next season
  • Reports claim Angel di Maria, Mauro Icardi and Leandro Paredes are set to leave
  • Di Maria is out of contract this summer and will not be offered an extension
  • Icardi and Paredes could also be moved on in the summer transfer window
  • Messi is expected to wave goodbye to his three compatriots in the French capital

Lionel Messi is likely to be the last Argentinian standing at Paris Saint-Germain next season, with reports suggesting Angel di Maria, Mauro Icardi and Leandro Paredes are all set to leave the club this summer.

Messi has endured one of his least successful campaigns for a number of years with PSG, registering just three goals in 21 Ligue 1 appearances.

The Barcelona legend is yet to hit his stride at the Parc des Princes, meaning he failed to help them get past his old rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16.

And according to Spanish outlet AS, things could get worse for him in the French capital this summer, as his three Argentinian colleagues are expected to depart at the end of the season.

The first of those compatriots is Di Maria, who has just over two months remaining on his current PSG deal and will not be offered an extension by the club.

The 34-year-old has only started five matches in 2022, with Mauricio Pochettino not using him in the league since their 1-0 defeat away at Nice on March 5.

As a result, he is set to move on when his contract expires at the end of June, and French publication L’Equipe claims both Icardi and Paredes could follow him out the door.

Mauro Icardi could be offloaded for less than £20m

Leandro Paredes (L) and Mauro Icardi (R) are also likely to depart at the end of the season

Icardi, who is still under contract until 2024, has only scored five goals in 30 outings this term and PSG are therefore prepared to flog him for less than £20million in the summer transfer window.

His off-field disputes with wife Wanda Nara are also said to have irked club director Leonardo and supporters, who jeered him when he came on as a substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Marseille.

As for Paredes, Messi’s close friend who is described in the report as his ‘guard dog’, he has struggled for consistency since completing a £36million switch from Zenit Saint-Petersburg in January 2019.

Parc des Princes officials are therefore ready to cash in on the midfielder, who is set to enter the final year of his deal, amid their desire to undergo a squad revamp in the summer.

After being dumped out of the Champions League by Madrid, they are looking to lead a revolution at the end of the season and boost their chances of going further in the competition next term.

Should all three depart the club as expected, Messi will wave goodbye to his closest friends at PSG and gear up for a season without them.

The club are desperate for him to see out the final year of his own deal in 2022/23 before either tying him down to an extension or letting him depart on a free.
