The Mercedes F1 star owns more than 15 cars but admits he has his favourites among the collection. Eight of Lewis Hamilton’s models are considered “special” with his supercar models divided between his Monaco and Los Angeles homes.

As well as buying cars to enjoy between a packed Grand Prix season, Hamilton also admits they are the perfect investment opportunity.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, he previously admitted he was “particular” with the models he purchases.

He said: “So many sportsmen — sportswomen are generally a smarter species — have squandered their money. I’m very conscious of that.

“I don’t know anything about wine. I don’t know a huge amount about art.

“But what I do know is cars, and I’m very particular about them.”

However, despite its flashy appearance, Hamilton admitted the car was “terrible to drive” whilst speaking to The Sunday Times.

He said: “The Zonda is terrible to drive! It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst.

“I got it in manual because I didn’t like the Tiptronic version.

“The Tiptronic Pagani offered was worse than the Smart Roadster I had. I’m used to quick gearshifts, so I guess I’m more critical than most customers.

“If you asked me to design my own supercar, I’d have it manual.”

Shelby 427 Cobra

However, Hamilton’s prized possession is his original 1966 Shelby Cobra, engineered by American racing legend Carroll Shelby.

Hamilton admitted he even called Shelby to check the car out for him, the American Le Mans winner claiming it was “one of the best he’d ever seen”.

Hamilton has previously said he wants to keep the original model perfect so purchased a 1967 427 Cobra as well to drive more regularly.

It is believed both 427’s are valued at between £4-5million since Shelby’s death in 2012.

Project AMG-One hypercar

Lewis Hamiton is expected to take delivery of one of the most exclusive models of the year in 2021.

Just 275 models will be produced with a price tag of over £2.2million.

The car is still in the prototype stage but will take inspiration fork Hamilton’s previous F1 title-winning machines.

The model is capable of 1,200 horsepower with a 1.6 V6 turbo capable of just 0-62mph in just 2.2 seconds.

He said: “I was able to drive the Project ONE during the filmwork for the new campaign, and I’m very proud of the extraordinary effort Mercedes-AMG has invested in this project.

“This car is absolutely unique.”
