KERRY Katona has revealed that her children are still teased about her troubled past – despite her being sober for 13 years.

The former Atomic Kitten star first took speed when she was 14 after her alcoholic mum pretended it was sherbet dip.

Kerry, 40, later became addicted to cocaine, using it as a crutch as she tried to deal with both mental health and personal problems.

She eventually kicked her habit in 2008 and has been clean ever since.

Writing in her new! magazine column, Kerry says she has never hidden her former addiction issues from her five children.

Yet even though her worst days are long behind her, the star’s five children still get picked on about it in the playground.

Kerry said: “I’ve always been honest with my kids about my past because there’s no point hiding it.

“What hurts is that even 13 years sober, kids still tease my children in the playground about my past.

“Even though my kids never witnessed me taking drugs, they’re the ones still suffering for it years later.”

‘PAINFUL TRIGGER’

Kerry is mum to daughters Molly, 20, and Lilly, 18, with Westlife star Brian McFadden. She shares Heidi, 14, and Max, 13, with ex Mark Croft.

Her youngest child, Dylan-Jorge, is seven. Kerry had DJ – as she is called for short – with her ex George Kay, who died in 2019.

Earlier this week, Kerry was seen quitting Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins just two days into the gruelling course.

Speaking to Chief Instructor Ant Middleton, Kerry said: “It’s been amazing. I have actually loved it. I’ve never looked at myself as a failure, but you kick yourself if you can’t do something.

“I might not have come in first but I’ve got from the bottom to the top and then back to the bottom.”

During the first episode, Kerry was hauled before the Directing Staff as they delved into her troubled past.

Kerry broke down in tears as she was questioned.

She later explained in her new! column: “On the show they grabbed me by the shoulders and shouted, ‘You’ve got more to prove than anyone Katona!’

“But it catapulted me back to a place which I thought I’d got over and clearly haven’t. It was a massive trigger.

“The shouting took me back to feeling really worthless. It triggered memories of George.“

Kerry went on to explain that George once spat in her face, adding: “I got to the point where I would rather take a beating than have him spit in my face.”
