Jose Mourinho responds to Glenn Hoddle after 'diabolical' Tottenham loss to Dinamo Zagreb

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho says he “does not need” Glenn Hoddle’s criticism to know how damaging his side’s Europe League exit is. Tottenham crashed out of the competition to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday in spectacular fashion. Spurs took a 2-0 aggreate lead to Croatia but a hat-trick from Mislav Orsic led the hosts to a stunning comeback win.

Spurs’ week started with the north London derby defeat to Arsenal and has only got worse.

Tottenham’s only hope now of ending their 13-year wait for a trophy lies with the Carabao Cup, where they play Manchester City in the final in April.

After the match, Spurs legend Hoddle labelled the result a “disaster” and said the performance was “diabolical”.

“Mentally they have got it wrong right through the game,” Hoddle said on BT Sport.

“I said, if Zagreb score I am expecting a reaction. That is Spurs chance to respond but they went backwards.

And the Portuguese said it didn’t hurt to hear what the pundit had to say.

Mourinho responded: “No. Mr Hoddle, of course, is a legend at the club and every word that he says, sometimes negative, sometimes positive, has to be respected.

“But I do not needed Mr Hoddle’s words to feel hurt and as I said, more than sad. Sad is not enough.

“I totally respect everything that somebody connected or not connected with the club says about us tonight.
