BREAKING NEWS: Jordan Henderson signs new long-term contract with Liverpool ending speculation over his future… as club captain joins likes of Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in penning new Reds deals
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has ended speculation over his future by signing a new long-term contract with the Reds.
Reports claimed at the start of the summer claimed that the 31-year-old was frustrated that an agreement over a new contract was not reached but the midfielder has now penned a new three-year deal at the club, with an option for a fourth.
Henderson has joined the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in committing to the Anfield club this summer via new long-term contracts.

‘I’m obviously very honoured and proud to continue the journey I’ve already been on here,’ the Liverpool captain told the club’s official website. ‘It’s amazing to finally get it done and just concentrate on looking forward and what the future may hold.
‘I’m in a different place of course, as a player and as a person, from when I first walked in. I’ve learned and grown a lot over my time here, and I’ve got to thank a lot of people for that.
‘I’ve loved every minute of it, even when I look back at the tough times, I was still enjoying being a part of this football club. The longer I can do that, the better for me really. I want to be here as long as possible, I’ve always said that.
Henderson lifted the Premier League title with Liverpool back in 2020 after a stellar season
‘To continue this journey is incredible for me and my family, and I hope the fans and the club feel the same way.’
According to reports, the option of a fourth year in Henderson’s new contract at Liverpool is dependant on how many appearances he makes up until that point.
The midfielder has become the heartbeat of the Liverpool squad over the past ten years and captained them to their first ever Premier League title back in 2020, after taking over the armband from club legend Steven Gerrard in 2015.
He won the Football Writers’ Player of the Year Award in the year Liverpool won the title and was also voted as the Reds’ Player of the Season that year. Henderson also led Jurgen Klopp’s side to a sixth Champions League trophy back in 2019.
His renewal would be the latest in a long line of extensions signed by Reds first-team stars. Defender Alexander-Arnold was the first to pen a new deal by signing a four-year extension in late July, and the England right-back’s statement of commitment was swiftly followed by a contract for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho days later.
Goalkeeper Alisson also penned a new deal in the first week of July while Van Dijk also signed on the dotted line.
