Golf superstar Jon Rahm is planning a Spanish feast for his Masters dinner, but fellow golfer Dustin Johnson has now awkwardly confessed he’s not familiar with many of the dishes.
Johnson, who won the Masters in 2020, will be among the stars sampling Rahm’s chosen menu at Augusta National’s clubhouse on April 9.
Rahm’s menu is packed with Spanish delights, including tapas and dishes from the Basque region where he was born. The lentejas estofodas, a stew inspired by Rahm’s mum, could be a big hit.
“I have seen the menu, yes,” Johnson told LIV Golf ahead of the 2024 Masters. “I’m sure it’s going be fantastic. I don’t know what a lot of it is. I do know there’s ham. Playing in Spain last year, I ate a lot of ham, so I know that’s going to be great. I love Spanish food; I’m just not that familiar with it. But I can imagine it’s going to be great.”
To beat current Masters champion Rahm or world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Johnson knows he needs to bring his best game.
He added: “Last year, I struggled a little bit, didn’t play near as well as I’d like to. But this year, obviously getting off to a little bit better start, I feel like the game’s in really good form.”
“To be honest, putting in a little more work. just wasn’t pleased with my results. Putting in the effort, I think, is the biggest thing. I just wasn’t happy with the way I played. So, I’m working a little bit harder this year.”
LIV Golf rebels will also get the chance to go up against rivals outside of their tour. Talks continue over a potential merger between LIV Golf, the PGA, and the DP World Tour.
Johnson says he knows how he sizes up against the likes of Rory McIlroy, who is once again hotly tipped to finally clinch a famous green jacket.
“I’ve played with all of them for a long time, so I know how my game stacks up against them,” a confident Johnson said.
“Even last year going to Augusta felt normal. I’ve stayed close with all the guys that play the game. Especially all the guys that I’ve always hung out with. Living down in Jupiter, Florida, you know half the world of golf lives down here.
“I see the guys all the time. I’m always looking forward to playing the Masters. It’s something that I look forward to every single year and honored to play and honored to be a champion. Definitely looking forward to going back.”
Tiger Woods is also expected to compete at the Masters after being officially listed on the website. The golf icon has struggled with niggles in 2024 despite hoping to play a competition a month as part of a plan.
Last week fans tracked Woods’ private jet as it arrived nearby Augusta, with the golf icon already reported to have undertaken a secret practice round on the course in preparation.
