The TV star, who was brought up in relative poverty, admitted that he only recently realised he had missed out on quality family time due to work.

Speaking on his podcast with Judi Love, Jason and Judi’s Feel Good Tool Kit, he shared: “My first marriage really disintegrated on my theory of, I don’t want my children to have the childhood I had’.

“So I was out working all the time and I didn’t put the care and time into that relationship that it deserved and needed.

“It’s only now I’m starting to realise, ‘Oh, I’m not giving the children the childhood I had’, which is good in one thing but bad in another.

“Because I got to spend so much time and we had laughs with my parents.”

Jason has been married to second wife Lucy Dyke since December 2017 and the couple share two children together.

Weighing in on their relationship, the star said he and Lucy look set for a long life together after she joked it’s taken too long to train him up.

Jason joked: “My wife says to me, ‘I would never break up with you now because I couldn’t be bothered training someone else up to be a husband.

“‘It’s taken me too long to get you good at it’.”

While the couple remain private, Lucy regularly features in the dad-of-six’s stand-up material.

Jason previously told The Sun: “We all get along and it is good material. My family are half of my act. People like to hear about them.

“They come to hear that they are not a terrible parent, that it’s normal to lose it in front of a packed shopping centre.”

His comments come months after he lost an impressive three stone since the turn of the year after tipping 17st 5lbs on the scales.

The comedian, 40, was dubbed ‘the fat Michael Owen’ and often poked fun at his appearance in his sets.

But after a doctor told him he was classified as obese and the numbers on the scales crept higher, Jason decided enough was enough.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “You get to the point where you go ‘Am I getting enough joy out of life if I’m thinking about my weight?’

“I think I’ve thought about my weight every day of my adult life.

“Not crying about it, but gone upstairs and tried to put something on that doesn’t fit, or got out of breath chasing the kids. To get to a point where I’m thinking about it in a positive way feels good.”

After going on a health kick, Jason has seen the weight fall off, with him now weighing in at 14st 10lbs.

His waist size has also dropped from 40ins to 34ins.

Years of trying fad diets to lose weight and even more extreme measures such as a colonic irrigation proved unsustainable.

The secret to his success now is simply increasing his exercise and eating less.
