James Maddison believes he can inspire Leicester to European glory after finding the form of his life with the Foxes.

Brendan Rodgers’ side face Rennes in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League looking to salvage a season which has failed to reach the heights of the previous two campaigns.

After finishing fifth in two consecutive seasons and winning the FA Cup last year, Leicester are faltering in the Premier League, where they are 12th, and know their only route back into European football is by winning the Conference League.

‘I think my form over the past few months has been as good as it has been in a Leicester shirt,’ said Maddison. ‘My numbers have been improving every year.

‘I scored 11 goals last season and I’m already on that total now.

‘We can still make it a brilliant season if we were to win this competition and finish higher in the Premier League.

‘We played in Europe for the last two seasons which is brilliant for a club like Leicester City. You get European football then you always want to go on to the next challenge but the Premier League is so tough.

‘You need to be realistic in your targets which we always are before the start of the season.’

Leicester are still looking for their first league win of 2022 and they travel to Burnley on Tuesday, before facing Leeds four days later.
